These easy and delicious Waffle Grilled Cheese Sandwiches are a great way to get little chefs into the kitchen, and create fun meals that the whole family will enjoy!
Avery is *almost* 5. She’s smart, funny, creative, and sweet (most of the time) But, when it comes to food, my goodness is she difficult!! I hate to call her “picky” because she’s always willing to try new foods. It’s just that she has certain foods she loves, and wants all the time. Like quesadillas, macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, and Eggo Waffles.
Eggo Waffles are the “Go-To” food in this house. Avery would eat them for every meal if we’d let her (And I’d I’m being perfectly honest here, there are some days that we do)
Fortunately for us, Target carries all her favorite Eggo Waffle varieties, and fortunately for my wallet from now through 3/4, we can all save 20% on all Eggo items (except Nutri-Grain, Value Packs, and Breakfast Sandwiches) by using the Cartwheel App!!
And now I can feel even better about Avery’s favorite food. Eggo is now made with ‘No Artificial Flavors. Colors from Natural Sources.’ Look for the packaging with the green banner!
Eggo Waffles are great to eat as is, any time of day, but sometimes, I want to do something a little different. I love that I can use Eggo Waffles as a base, knowing it’s something Avery will eat, and add on some extra ingredients to ensure she’s getting everything she needs, nutritionally.
One day, at lunch, Avery asked if she could eat turkey and cheese on a waffle. She thought it was so silly, but it gave me an idea! Waffle Grilled Cheese Sandwiches!
We all love traditional grilled cheese, but I wanted to create something a bit more interesting. Since Avery loves ham, swiss, and pickles, I knew a Cuban style Waffle Grilled Cheese would be a big hit with her.
-Spread mustard on one of the waffles
-Add one (or two, or ten) slices of swiss cheese to each waffle
-Add slices of ham and then pickles, and close the sandwich!
-In a lightly buttered frying pan, grill your sandwich until the cheese is melty and the Eggo Waffle is a nice golden color. (I use the spatula to press the sandwich down a pit)
ENJOY! Avery was a big fan of this sandwich, and loved that she was able ot make it (almost) all by herself! Next, I wanted to try something sweet! We had some brie and I thought it would be perfect, paired with raspberry jam on Eggo Chocolatey Chip Waffles!Once again, Avery was ready, willing and super excited to help!
-First, lightly toast the Eggo Waffles.
-Spread Brie and jam on waffles
-Close the sandwich!
-In a lightly buttered frying pan, grill your sandwich until the brie is gooey and the Eggo Waffle is a nice golden color.
Avery loved this sandwich, too! Since making these two easy grilled cheese waffle sandwiches, Avery has been asking to create MORE waffle sandwich recipes! I’m thrilled to use her favorite food, Eggo Waffles, to create so many other meal options! And, we find that when she helps prepare the meal, she tends to want to eat it! Do you have any creative Eggo Waffle sandwich ideas? What fun recipe would you like to try?
