It’s starting to sink in that in one short week, I will be the mom of a kindergartner! My little baby is going to KINDERGARTEN! It seems impossible, but it’s true. Honestly, I’m really excited for her. I know she’s is going to have an incredible time at her new school; making friends, learning new things, having new experiences. It will definitely be a big change for her. She’s going from half days, 3 days a week to full days, 5 days a week. We’ve been working on preparing her for this transition by sending her to full day summer camp a few weeks this summer. We’ve prepared her for new teachers, new friends, and a new school by attending every open house and event we can. I think she’s ready!

That said, I also feel like I need to do something to prepare her teachers for HER. We had a chance to chat with one of her kindergarten teachers at open house. That conversation involved Dave and I trying to learn more about the classroom, the schedule, and the teacher while Avery spent the time interrupting us and re-writing the classroom rules. (Her rules included good ones like “No hitting” and some interesting ones like “No throwing sea lions”. There was no rule about “interrupting while people are speaking”.)

Her teacher thought it was hilarious, but we made it clear that there is no OFF switch on our daughter, and she is ON, on stage, performing, from sunrise to well after sunset. So…GOOD LUCK!!

She laughed, and then told us how she takes her coffee.

She will need it for sure with our little spitfire, and I will provide her with gift cards to buy it!

I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to talk about our Teacher Survival Kit that we are putting together for Avery’s Kindergarten teachers!

Along with coffee gift cards, these kits are filled with the little things a teacher may need to help them through the year.

One of the things I ALWAYS include in these kits is Wet Ones® Hand Wipes.

Wet Ones® was kind enough to send me some free product samples of their Specially Marked canister and travel pack that features a sweepstakes to Universal Orlando Resort™ with packaging based on two of Universal Orlando Resort’s hit attractions – Shrek 4D and Transformers™: The Ride-3D!

You can find great savings on Wet Ones® with this Ibotta offer.

I love to include Wet Ones® Hand Wipes in these kits because not only do they clean messy hands (wipe out dirt and messes when water isn’t available) but they also kill 99.99% of germs!

So what else do we include in our kits? Let me give you some ideas!

Items for a teacher survival kit

  • Wet Ones® Hand Wipes
  • Lint Roller
  • Mini first aid kit
  • Nail kit
  • Tissues
  • Pain Reliever
  • Antacids
  • Granola/Energy Bars
  • Mints/Gum

To make the kit, we use a small basket or little bin, and fill it with paper basket filler. Then we get to work filling it up with all the essentials.

I start with the larger items in the back, and fill in with the smaller items in front, so it looks pretty.

You can wrap it up in a gift basket bag, tied with a bow, to finish it off!

My daughter teaches kindergarten and is forever buying items for her classroom and kiddos. It’s a blessing she loves teaching!

  2. Helen Hodnicky says:

I am a high school teacher. I would LOVE to get one of these baskets. Just the thought of your daughter giving this to her teacher brings tears to my eyes. For the first time in eighteen years of teaching I received an email at the beginning of the school year stating how much I was appreciated. It means so much to me! Teachers, each in their own way, try to make school a positive experience for every student every day. Over the years teachers have been burdened by more of the politics and influences from outside the classroom. An act such as this basket puts everything back in perspective. Just like many of the things teachers do, it is neither required nor expected. However, it is very much appreciated! Please tell your daughter,”Thank you!”. Her act of kindness has brightened my day. And thank you for being such a caring parent who instills the importance of teaching and education in her child.
