This Christmas is going to be filled with horses, American Girl Dolls, kawaii, and ART! Avery has been drawing and painting non-stop this year, and I am loving it! She’s taken an interest in art history and loves learning about artists both past and present. One of the gifts I’m most looking forward to giving her this year is a ticket to see Imagine Van Gogh.

Imagine Van Gogh is the ORIGINAL immersive exhibition in Image Totale © featuring more than 200 of the Dutch artist’s paintings. It will be on exhibit at the SoWa Power Station in Boston’s popular SoWa Art + Design District.

Annabelle Mauger and Julien Baron are the Artistic Directors behind the creation of the Imagine Van Gogh. They are known for their work at Cathédrale d’Images in Les Baux-de-Provence, France.

Imagine Van Gogh “brings Van Gogh’s canvases to life in a vivid, spectacular way: the audience will truly enter the artist’s world of dreams; visitors are literally transported on a journey to the heart of the artist’s work.”

I can’t wait for Avery to experience this immersive exhibit.

Tickets start at $33.99 (plus service charges and fees) and are on sale now. For more information, please visit www.imagine-vangogh.com

Dinner Is Saved with Peapod!

Disclosure: #ad  I was given a gift code to facilitate this review. All opinions of the Peapod Service are my own.

Hey friends!  It’s been awhile… Things have been pretty crazy over here the past 6 or so months.  Our family has experienced so many changes, and challenges and unfortunately this blog took a backseat to everything else.  But, things are settling down (sort of!) and I am so happy to be back!

One major change is that I very recently accepted a NEW JOB! I’ll talk about it more in the future, but it’s awesome, and I am so happy! It’s a “normal” job in that I actually have to change out of my pajamas and go to an office Monday – Friday, 9 – 5.  It’s a huge change after working from home or the past 7 years, but I am soooo ready for it.

As ready as I am, there is the little worry in my mind about how the heck I am going to do EVERYTHING?!

Take a look at our weekly schedule:

Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday
Sarah Baseball Work til 5pm Work til 3pm Work til 5pm Work til 5pm Work til 5pm Baseball
Dave Baseball Work til 2:30 Baseball practice 7pm Work til 2:30 Work til 2:31 Work til 2:32 Work til 2:33 Baseball
Avery Baseball Coding til 5:30 Dance 4:30 – 6pm Dance til 5:00 Baseball practice: 6 – 7pm Nothing? Maybe? That can’t be right. Baseball
Girl Scouts 5:45 – 7:15pm Baseball Game 5:30 – 7pm

I guess we can just eat on Friday, and weekends when Dave doesn’t have night games.

I mean, Dave will be home, and he is more than capable of cooking (full disclosure: he is the one who cooks most of the time!)  But it feels like we won’t have any time now that I won’t be home until later. And when the heck will we do our shopping?

That’s where Peapod comes in!  I’ve blogged about Peapod before, and how easy it made party planning. I am going to start taking my own advice, and let someone else do the heavy lifting for me. (Literally)

Peapod is SUPER convenient and easy! I can order everything we need for the week while on my lunch break, and schedule a delivery time that works for me.54433318_570651363446645_6234251274750001152_n

Since Dave was home this week, I chose a delivery time right in the middle of the day, so he could be the one to put all the groceries away! Ha! 55546961_1214622135366021_7038730191530622976_n

I love that Peapod sends you alerts so you know exactly when to expect your delivery. It’s nice that you don’t have to wait around all day, looking out the window, dreaming about groceries…

OK, so we all know about the convenient delivery and pick-up options. But wait, there’s MORE! Did you know that you can order delicious pre-made meals?  The chicken parm is really good, and is a definite favorite in our family! The pre-made meals are perfect for nights when I just do not have time to prepare even the simplest of meals. I can grab one of these from the fridge and just heat it up! peapod-2

Peapod also offers a variety of affordable meal kits (many are less than $5 per serving) that contain pre-measured, pre-cut and pre-washed ingredients for meals made in 30 minutes or less!!  I was really excited to try these out as we’ve always wanted to use meal kits, but never wanted to be locked into a monthly plan, or get stuck with meals we really weren’t interested in.

I ordered the Beef and Broccoli kit, and the Upscale Beef Stroganoff!  It is so simple, as the kit includes all the ingredients you need, portioned and clearly labeled. The recipe is easy to follow, and doesn’t require any advanced cooing skills. peapod-4

The Beef Stroganoff was SO GOOD! And it made 6 servings so we had more than enough for dinner and lunches the following day! I love the ease of having these meals ready to go in the fridge. Dave and I can easily grab them and whip it up quickly for a hearty meal before practice!peapod-5 Peapod makes shopping so easy, not just with delivery or pick-up but with other special features like:

  • Express Shop: Quickly locate and select all ingredients for a specific recipe, meal plan, etc. Just type your list into the notepad; click Start Shopping and the products matching your first item will be displayed.
  • Order Genius: Auto-fill your cart with the items you buy most frequently and even recall shopping history from Stop & Shop and Giant loyalty reward cards.
  • Sort Feature: Find products with the best price, to meet your dietary needs, even see which product is most popular. Select your sort preference from the drop-down box at the top of every page. Click the Save Sort link and your products will always be sorted that way.
  • Filter Feature: Filter to only see the products that meet your needs, whether you’re looking for dairy-free cereal or peanut-free snacks.

Peapod has no required membership fee, but they do offer an optional subscription service called PodPass which gives subscribers unlimited free delivery and pick-up for one low price with 3 month, 6 month and 12 month options! Standard delivery fees range from $6.95-$9.95

So here I am, having a lazy Sunday, not rushing around the market trying to figure out what the heck we will eat this week, along with half the state. Because I know that Peapod has me covered!

BOSTON/MA FRIENDS!!! From now until the end of March, I am offering a code: FRESH50 to my followers for $25 off your first two orders and 1-year free delivery with a PodPass subscription!  That’s an amazing deal!! Don’t miss out and head to Peapod right now to grab your groceries for the week!

Red Sox Peanut Allergy Friendly Nights

Red Sox Peanut Allergy Friendly Games

I’ve talked to quite a few parents who want to take their kids to Red Sox games, but worry about their child’s severe peanut allergy.  We all know that Peanuts are a baseball stadium snacking tradition.  They are even in a song you may have heard…Take me out to the ball game. Take me out with the crowd. Buy me some peanuts and crackerjacks. I don’t care if I never get back.

But, for many kids (and adults) those peanuts can cause severe reactions. Even if they are just sitting near someone who is eating them.

Because the team wants ALL Red Sox fans to be able to come out and enjoy a game at Fenway, they are offering Peanut Allergy Friendly Nights! On select nights, they will have a Peanut Free Section for fans who buy these special tickets in advance.

Red Sox Peanut Allergy Friendly Nights:

Tuesday June 27th

Sunday July 30th

Sunday August 6th

To purchase tickets for the Peanut Free Section e-mail peanutallergy@redsox.com

Also, the Pawtucket Red Sox will be hosting two Peanut Free nights at McCoy Stadium. Those games are Monday, July 17th and Monday August 21st. Peanut products will not be sold anywhere throughout the ballpark during those two games. Those tickets are available on their website, or at the box office.

Boloco Warwick – Our New Lunchtime Obsession *GIVEAWAY*

*Disclosure: I was given a $20 gift card to facilitate my review and an additional gift card to giveaway to one lucky reader! All opinions are my own.* Boloco-Lockup-with-Tagline-RGB-2color

I have driven by the Warwick boloco restaurant many many many times, but never stopped in.  I had thought they were just another burrito joint and that I wouldn’t like anything they had to offer.  I was so, so wrong. And now I’m kicking myself for the many missed opportunities at an awesome lunch (or dinner!)  After hearing, from friends, about their awesome experiences, and the amazing menu, I knew I had to give it a try! I figured even if I can’t find a burrito or salad I like, they have milkshakes, and I sure do love me some milkshakes!

After soccer, Avery and I stopped in to the boloco in Warwick, RI.  We were greeted warmly, and I mentioned that it was our first time, and I had absolutely no clue what I was doing.  The girl at the register explained everything to me. She told me that everything was available as a burrito or bowl and if I didn’t like any of the options I could “goloco” and create my own!

boloco warwickBoloco Warwick

I decided on the teryaki burrito,  minus the onions, plus white meat chicken!  Boloco burritos come in three sizes; original, small and mini. Bowls also come in three sizes; big, original and small.

Boloco warwick teryaki jimmy carter shake

My burrito was phenomenal! The ingredients were fresh and flavorful and I ate every bite! For dessert I got myself a mini Jimmy Carter (peanut butter & banana) shake! It was absolutely delicious!

I was really impressed with the kid’s meals! I wasn’t sure what they’d have, and with Avery being so particular, I didn’t know if she’d eat anything. There were actually a few things that she would like. She chose a cheese & cheese burrito, with organic milk and a mini cookie for dessert! I ate half the cookie and it was really good!  Boloco kids mealI love that they give the kids crayons so they can color on the bag! Such a simple and brilliant idea.   Avery at Boloco

Avery and I both loved our lunch and we will definitely be back very soon! (I need to try the pumpkin and nutella shakes!)

King’s Hawaiian Brought The Aloha Spirit to Boston!

**Disclosure–I was invited to this event as media. I was not compensated and all opinions of this delicious brand are my own**

I had the privilege of attending a truly fantastic event this week. Not only did I get to meet one of my all time favorite baseball players and eat delicious food, I got to learn more about a great company, and be inspired!

King’s Hawaiian invited me to attend their event at Jerry Remy’s overlooking Fenway Park. The event featured Shane Victorino, of the Boston Red Sox, but the real stars of the show were four great kids from the Medford Boys & Girls Club!

Shane Victorino, “The Flyin’ Hawaiian” is a native of Wailuku, Hawaii, and the King’s Hawaiian local spokesman.

The kids from the Boys & Girls Club cooking with SHane Victorino from the Red Sox using Kings Hawaiian products

The event kicked off with a cooking demo, where Shane and the kids made some delicious recipes for us all to try! The first was Cheesy Bread. This recipe was heavy on the mayo, and if you know me personally, you know that normally I run at the sight of mayo.  However, when your favorite baseball player, and two really cool kids cook something for you, you eat it! And eat I did! (Much to the shock of my friends following the event on instagram!) It was actually really good, and I enjoyed every bite!

During the cooking demo Shane answered some questions from the media. It wasn’t your normal post game interview. These questions really got to the heart of who Shane is and how important it is for him to give back in his community. This was the good stuff!

Shane talked about ‘Ohana (family) and how important family is to him. He spoke about his children and how he loves spending time with them and with his family back in Hawaii.

Shane Victorino and Kings Hawaiian

Next the girls got to work on some really amazing Maui Burgers! After eating this, I decided that every burger I have from now until the end of time will be served on a King’s Hawaiian bun with pineapple! It was so good!

While enjoying our burgers, the kids started working on dessert (which was incredibly delicious and made me consider buying a one way ticket to Hawaii, right then and there!) and Shane answered some more questions.  When asked what advice he had for kids who aspired to be professional athletes, he offered great advice handed down to him from his mother.  He said to always have a back-up plan. He believes that while you should always give your dreams 100%, that nothing is guaranteed, especially in the world of pro sports, and it’s important to have a back-up plan in case your dream doesn’t pan out.  What was Shane’s back up plan?  “I didn’t have one!” he said. He was lucky he didn’t need one! Shane also told all the kids that it’s incredibly important to work hard at everything you do, and to really focus on school.

I loved learning more about the King’s Hawaiian brand and their products as well as hearing a little bit about the Boys & Girls Club’s Healthy Habits program. Healthy Habits teaches kids about the importance of nutrition, regular physical activity and improving overall well-being. During each session the kids participate in an interactive session, create a recipe, and then taste test it! I think it’s a wonderful way to instill healthy habits!

A family owned business, King’s Hawaiian was founded in Hilo, Hawaii in the 1950’s, and makes  the #1 branded dinner roll in the United States! They believe in sharing the Hawaiian Way: a uniquely Hawaiian approach to hospitality based on graciousness, generosity, and commitment to making everyone feel a part of the KING’S HAWAIIAN ‘ohana – their extended family. This philosophy really comes through in their products (delicious and high quality) as well as in their business practices. King’s Hawaiian is a company that I feel great about recommending to my friends, family, and of course, my valued blog readers!

I have to say, this was one of the best media events I’ve attended! The location was fantastic, the brand was amazing, and the food was heavenly.  Oh, and Shane Victorino being there was pretty sweet as well!

Thank you to the great folks at King’s Hawaiian for giving me the opportunity to learn more about your brand, and making me feel like ‘Ohana!

Macy’s The Secret Garden Flower & Fashion Event: Boston

I am a member of the Everywhere Society and Everywhere has provided me with compensation for this post about Macy’s. However, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Macy's The Secret Garden Flower Fashion Show

It has been awhile since Avery and I had a Mommy Daughter Adventure! We used to go random places together all the time, but this winter (and winter-like Spring) has kind of put a hold on these trips!

This past Saturday the weather was nicer, and we were really feeling the cabin fever, so we hopped in the car and headed out to Boston! Our plan?  To check out The Secret Garden event at Macy’s Downtown Crossing!

We arrived and parked, then walked around looking for a spot to have breakfast. We spotted Boston Common Coffee where we grabbed a Blueberry muffin top & a latte, and hung out on the comfiest couches EVER!

After breakfast we had about an hour to kill before Macy’s opened (I should learn to read, really–It opened at 10am, not 9am as I thought) so we made our way to the playground at Boston Common, where Avery climbed the Mt. Everest of playground slides and squealed “AGAIN!!” after every trip down!

After what seemed like a million times down the slide, and greeting every single dog in the common, we headed back to Macy’s!

Macys The Secret Garden Boston flower show fashion floral

The Secret Garden featured floral inspired fashion and large bouquets of flowers designed by local florists. They also had a few events throughout the week including fashion shows and a “Lunch & Learn” seminar. Saturday they held a Family Fun Day with arts and crafts, balloon twisting, and even a painting class for kids 8 and up!

We were unable to attend these special events, but we enjoyed the floral displays and checking out the spring fashions!

Avery spent some time “modeling” while I daydreamed about owning all the beautiful dresses! Macys The Secret Garden Boston flower show

The flowers looks and smelled AMAZING and I wanted to take one home!Macys The Secret Garden Boston Downtown crossing

This bouquet was our favorite! It was so whimsical, and Avery loved all the butterflies!

It was fun to “window shop” and get some ideas for my next shopping spree. The Spring fashion is so fun and vibrant! Even though it’s still cold and rainy here in New England, you can’t help but feel warm and sunny if you were wearing one of these floral ensembles!  Macys The Secret Garden Boston flowers fashion

I fell in love with this Jessica Simpson dress! I wish I had an event to wear it to!

I’m loving this floral trend for spring, and can’t wait for warmer weather so I can rock some of these sweet dresses!
