Build & Imagine play sets are the perfect gift for kids who are dreaming of a STEM Christmas!!stem-christmas

I’m dreaming of a white Christmas…
Dave is dreaming of a sunny and 75* Christmas…
Avery?  She’s dreaming of a STEM Christmas!

Of course she doesn’t call it that, but her list is full of STEM toys and ideas. Well, that + a real kitten, a real puppy and a real bunny…  She loves toys that she can build with, learn from, and use her imagination.

Her favorite toys for over a year are her Build & Imagine sets (You might remember our review from last year. You can find it HERE)

To say that Avery was excited to receive a new Build & Imagine set would be an understatement. She was OVER THE MOON and couldn’t wait to tear into the box (Literally…she tore the box apart before I could show her how easy it is to do the correct way..)

stem-for-girlsThe new kit we received is Malia’s Beach House.  Avery LOVED all the different rooms (Malia has a pretty sweet pad!)

Malia’s Beach House • $59.99 • Ages 4+ Dr. Toy’s 2015 Best Classic Toys, PAL Top 10 Language Learning Toys, Parents’ Choice Gold Award, The National Parenting Center Seal of Approval

Dollhouse meets building blocks meets dress-up dolls in this innovative re-imagining of the classic dollhouse!  Children develop early engineering skills by designing a beach house for dolls Malia and Skyler. Features a swimming pool, functional door, living room, kitchen, 2 bedrooms and bathrooms, garden, floor and roof shapes, outfits, accessories, pets and more!

malias-beach-houseI love that these sets allow Avery to use her imagination, build really cool structures, and stay occupied so I can write reviews of the amazing toys she gets to play with 😉

Each Build & Imagine set includes a doll(s), illustrated magnetic building panels, and magnetic accessories! These sets do NOT come with instructions, because there are no rules here, just imagination and fun!

building-toys-for-girls What is really special about this building set is that it was designed with girls in mind. When you walk down the building set aisle at your local toy store, you’ll surely see some pink and purple sets, but the shelves are mainly stocked with sets that cater to boys.  Build & Imagine founder, Laurie Peterson, wanted to create toys that would help girls develop skills science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) Why is this important for girls?   Well, women represent only 24% of the workforce in those fields! That’s a glaring gender gap! Introducing, and teaching these skills early, can’t help girls to succeed later on in STEM/STEAM! build-and-imagine-christmasAvery now has three sets, and mixes them together to create even bigger houses and buildings! Malia can leave her bedroom and walk right into the Marine Rescue Center, or over to the Fairytale Theater!

Other new sets include the Pet Portrait Studio, Day at the Beach, Creativity Castle, and a very cool Draw & Build Doll House where your kids can create their own panels! Build & Imagine also has some fun new expansion packs! Avery loves the Glow in the Dark Slumber Party Expansion Pack and we also want to get the Career Dolls accessory set! build-and-imagine-expansionBuild & Imagine is by far our family’s favorite toy. If you have any creative girls (or any kid!) on your holiday shopping list, these kits are a must buy! They’ve won more than 25 awards, and were just nominated for two TOTY Awards (“Malia’s House” is a finalist for the
“Rookie of the Year Category”, and the “Marine Rescue Center” is up for “Building Toy of the Year”.) The sets can be found in Barnes & Noble, Amazon, QVC, and limited Target stores. (The Target test is a really exciting opportunity for Build & Imagineif it sells well they’ll have chance at expanding to all the stores next year.)   You can visit their site for a map of retail locations:

And look at these pictures of Avery! 1 year later, these are still her favorite toys AND she’s still just as annoyed with me when I interrupt her building to take a photo! stem-gifts
