Ohm, Ahhhh…..Relaxation at Urban Sweat

Every mommy needs a “Me Day” every other day now and then. My dear friend Jen from Savoring The Thyme knew how desperately I needed a day of relaxation and rejuvenation and she invited me to join her and few of the other Rhode Island Digital Media Women to join her at Raffa Yoga in Cranston RI to try out Urban Sweat.

First, let me apologize for the crummy photos.  As soon as I walked through the door I kicked myself for leaving the GOOD camera at home.  The place is absolutely stunning.  As soon as you walk through the doors you are transported to a tranquil oasis. Seriously.  It’s gorgeous.   (They also made sure that the entrance outside is beautiful, and gives you a taste of what is to come once you go inside)

Inside you will find the reception desk and an area that sells everything you’ll need for your yoga experience!

“Welcome to Urban Sweat, where Old World Wisdom meets New World self care.  We’ve painstakingly created a paradise for you to unwind, relax and breathe your worries away.  We feature 21 therapeutic massage and treatment rooms and 6 heat therapy rooms to foster and encourage your health and well being.”

Once inside Urban Sweat we were treated to Turmeric Tonic and spring rolls!  Delicious!

I was in heaven in the main Active Relaxation Room. It’s FILLED with bean bag style chairs to lounge on (my dream house will have a room like this. Nothing but pillows and bean bag chairs!)  Oh AND it utilized radiant heated floors!  (Which I LOVE since my feet are always freezing! Just ask Dave!)

And they have water beds! You can’t get much more heavenly!

I spent some quality time in the Himalayan Salt Grotto, with the hope of eliminating these new allergies that I’ve developed since moving to RI (I think I’m allergic to the ocean or something) The room was designed to resemble a salt mine.  It’s so sparkly and I honestly thought that the 7 Dwarfs would come “Hi-Ho-ing” in to the room at any moment!

I visited the Yellow Turmeric Room, and the Black Charcoal Room.  Both are very hot, and very therapeutic.  The Eucalyptus Steam Room is also a wonderful place to hang out, and enjoy the benefits of steam and aroma therapy! I don’t have photos because heat, steam and cell phones are not friends.

My personal favorite was the Oceanic Relaxation Room.  It’s like a silent, indoor beach.  You can relax with your feet in the sand and not have the fear of sunburn or crazed seagulls!   I spent most of my time in here, laying on the heated water beds, and enjoying the SILENCE!

No crying babies in here!

I really hated to leave!  Had I not had plans I would have stayed until the literally kicked me out.  It was just what I needed after nearly 6 months of not having a moment to relax! Urban Sweat is a great place for all of you moms (and anyone else) who just need a bit of a time out to breathe, relax, be alone….  If you want company, let me know because I plan on going back as soon and as often as possible.  I’d also love to try out their massage therapy services! (As an LMT I’m a bit of a massage “snob” but their therapists have YEARS of experience, and the therapy rooms are fantastic)

*Hint, Hint Dave! This would be a great Christmas present!

I am thrilled you were able to enjoy yourself and yes, we will continue to make subtle (not) hints to Dave. I like seeing your feet so often in your post. Great job in relaying the ‘Om’ that is Urban Sweat. Next time we go togeth and hold hands.

Good blog Sarah! Its fantastic when you can find an Awesome massage therapist who gives great massages!’ Too bad this place isn’t closer. I as a massage therapist am picky on massage therapists because I am one! There’s nothing like a wonderful massage to calm your mind and relax your body!:)
