If you follow me on instagram, twitter, or facebook, you would know that over the past three weeks I have been trying really, really, REALLY hard to stick to a fitness plan and make smart choices when it comes to food! I’ve been doing well, and I’m quite proud of myself! However, I do find that sometimes making the right choices can be difficult when I get those pangs of hunger away from home. As Ive talked about before, I do NOT want to turn to fast food or convenience store options, so I need to have on the go snacks that I can have on hand in a hunger emergency!
I stopped in to Walmart to see what they had that may fit the bill. I looked in the cereal aisle to see if there were any new breakfast type bars, or other snack bars that looked good, and better for me.
I saw the Life Choice bars and was intrigued! They had Wellness, Protein, Energy, and Meal bars! These looked perfect! I checked out the ingredients and saw that not only did they look delicious, but they were also nutritious and jam-packed with vitamins and minerals!
I grabbed a box of the Wellness snack bars because I thought they’d satisfy my appetite and provide me with all the protein and other nutrients that I need to get through my busy day!
I found these bars just in time!
This weekend we were busy bees! We went on a Whale watch, which meant we were on a boat for 4 hours with only access to the food we packed, or what they served in the galley! Having my Wellness bar meant I wasn’t as tempted to chow down on the not-so-healthy snacks aboard the boat! Then the next day Avery and I went to Edaville USA for Day Out with Thomas. Amusement park food is pricey, and it’s not the best for you (though they do have healthier options) again, I had a Wellness bar with me, and I chose that over mozzarella sticks and nachos. Avery had a hot dog and fries, as always.
I almost felt guilty eating what tasted like a candy bar, but then I reminded myself about all the fiber and protein and vitamins that I was getting! Seriously though, the double fudge graham bars taste like s’mores!! YUM!!!
In addition to trying to eat better, I’ve also been watching what I drink. I’ve all but given up soda completely, and we no longer buy it. I have switched from high fat and high sugar options at my favorite coffee shop, and opted for unsweetened iced green tea, and I’ve been slamming back as much water as I can. Sometimes, though, I crave something a bit sweeter!
I’ve been really loving all things pear lately! Fresh pears, pear juice, pear popcicles, and yes, even pear cider on the rare occasion that we go out. I decided to make my own Vanilla-Pear sparkling water!
It was pretty easy, and very delicious! I just chopped up fresh, ripe pears, put them in a pot with some vanilla bean and a little sugar, cooked it up, strained it, added the syrup to the water, and ta-da! A delicious, light and refreshing treat!
It was really, really, good and the perfect accompaniment to my Wellness bar!

- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 whole vanilla bean
- 2 cups sparkling water or seltzer
