Family Fun Rhode Island
Rhode Island may be the smallest state, but there is some BIG fun to be had!
Our first stop of the day was at Biomes Marine Biology Center. If you know us, you know how much we LOVE marine life, and we love Biomes! Avery and I have been visiting New England’s only private marine education facility and hands-on aquarium since the opened their North Kingstown location in 2013. The touch tanks are always a favorite, and you can find Avery and I hanging out with the sharks! They often have interesting demonstrations (Have you ever seen a puffer fish puff?) and the knowledgeable staff is always available to answer questions.
Biomes is a great place for all ages (and children 2 and under are admitted FREE) You can explore the center in about an hour and a half, though Avery likes to stay much longer!

It was hard to leave Biomes, but we knew more fun awaited us at Roger Williams Park Zoo!!
We are Zoo Members, and have been since Dave and I were dating, but we’re always excited for a visit to RWPZ!! We only had about an hour, so we decided to check out the new Birds From Down Under exhibit. Birds from Down Under opened this April and offers an immersive experience with bird species native to Australia. It features over 500 birds including grass parakeets, cockatiels and various parrot species. And guess what?? You get to feed them! Avery and I had fun watching the birds and feeding them seeds. Of course, there is much more to see and do at Roger Williams Park Zoo! Over 100 species of animals call the zoo home including some of our favorites the Snow Leopards, Cheetahs, Giraffes, and Red Pandas! The zoo also features a pretty amazing play area; Hasbro’s Big Backyard! Kid’s can play, create, build, and even cool off in the sprinklers on a hot day! It is not to be missed!!

After a quick hello/goodbye to the cheetahs, we made our way out of the zoo. We had a ballgame to get to!! As you know, we are HUGE Red Sox fans. That passion isn’t only for the big show in Boston, but the minor league teams as well. We’re so incredibly lucky to have the Pawtucket Red Sox (PawSox), Boston’s Triple-A Affiliate, right down 95! We arrived at McCoy Stadium and were greeted by Paws & his sister Sox. Avery thinks they are the cutest mascots ever (Sorry Wally!!) We were then treated to dinner in the Picnic tent! Avery was thrilled with the selection! After dinner we were whisked away on a very interesting tour of what I call the “hallway of fame” We saw pieces of Paw Sox history that you don’t normally have access to. Dave and I were in awe, and I loved seeing photos of some of my old favorite players!
After our tour, it was time for the most amazing moment of the night, and probably Avery’s life, so far. Avery was asked to say those two little words that we all love to hear….
And she ROCKED IT!! Seriously, this kid has no fear. She walked right out there on the field (by herself!) and got the game started!! <3 The game was a blast! Especially since the Paw Sox won! And after the game we enjoyed a wonderful fireworks show!! Fireworks nights are some of our favorite games to attend! Check out the schedule to see when the next fireworks night is, and check out the other fun promotions they have going on this season!!
A game at McCoy is the perfect family outing for us. We get to see a great game, at a really great (affordable!) price, and we don’t have to travel far!
