As a mom who works from home, I am always looking for way to entertain Avery during the day. I don’t want to sit her in front of the TV for 8 hours (Though, let me tell you, those Octonauts are pretty good babysitters!) and so many of her favorite activities involve a lot more parental assistance than I can give when I’m in the midst of a project or campaign. I like toys that not only keep Avery occupied, but also make her think.
And that’s why I knew we had to try Build & Imagine’s StoryWalls!
The StoryWalls are magnetic building sets that inspire creativity, storytelling, and learning! We chose the Marine Rescue Center (Ages 4 and up – $49.99) because of Avery’s lil obsession with marine life, and upcoming adventure at SeaSchool! This toy really combines her love of building with her love of animals!
Each building set includes a doll, illustrated building panels that connect with magnets, and a bunch of magnetic accessories to customize your scene. There are no instructions, you just use your imagination and build whatever you can dream up! The combinations are endless!
What is really special about this building set is that it was designed with girls in mind. When you walk down the building set aisle at your local toy store, you’ll surely see some pink and purple sets, but the shelves are mainly stocked with sets that cater to boys. Build & Imagine founder, Laurie Peterson, wanted to create toys that would help girls develop skills science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) Why is this important for girls? Well, women represent only 24% of the workforce in those fields! That’s a glaring gender gap! Introducing, and teaching these skills early, can’t help girls to succeed later on in STEM/STEAM!
In playing with these sets, your child is the designer, the architect, the builder, the storyteller… There are no rules, and no limits. The journey goes wherever their imagination takes them!
Avery has been playing with this set almost non-stop since we opened the box a few days ago. She thinks it is so much fun and so “cool, cool!”
I really love the illustrations. The Marine Rescue Center panels feature a laboratory, operating room, kitchen, ship control center, sea lion and dolphin pools, an otter rehab tank, underwater observatory and more!
