Some days are exceptionally good. Like the days you open your door to a delivery of handmade chocolates.
To say I was excited would be an understatement. I tore into that box like it was Christmas morning! I could not wait to try the newest small batch, purpose-driven chocolate line from Harbor Sweets–Gather.
Inside the lovely honeycomb shaped box, you’ll find a flight of six distinct taste experiences unified by dark chocolate and a subtle note of local wildflower honey.
The 6 chocolates are:
- Caramelized Honey
- Pomegranate Molasses
- Sour Cherry
- Sesame Crunch
- Coconut Cluster
- Cashew Caramel
All were delicious but my favorites were the Sour Cherry and Caramelized Honey!
These chocolates aren’t just delicious, they serve a greater purpose (Yes, there is a greater purpose than filling my belly with exceptional 70% cacao dark chocolate) 2.5% of all Gather chocolate sales will be donated to Pollinator Partnership, a 501c3 NGO that works to preserve and protect our pollinators by educating and advocating best beekeeping practices for honeybee protection.
“Harbor Sweets chocolates have always been rooted in telling stories about our coastline and nature,” explains Phyllis LeBlanc, owner and CEO of Harbor Sweets. “With Gather we continue to expand and create the best chocolates ever while committing our brand influence to addressing a very serious reality– the alarming decimation of honeybees and other pollinators. This has become perilous not just to cacao growing but to all agriculture, and we hope to change that trend by becoming part of the solution.” The loss of our Honeybee population is a serious issue. The USDA reports that pesticides and parasites have caused a loss of 44% of the honeybee colonization in just one year! We need to protect these bees as they are critical to the entire agricultural eco-system and add more than $15 billion to America’s agricultural economy!
You can help by eating chocolate and giving chocolate as a gift. People get chocolate, bees are saved. It’s a win-win!! Gather chocolate can be purchased in either a six-piece box or a twelve-piece box and retail for $12.50 and $18.50, respectively. (I recommend the twelve-piece box, especially if you intend to share!)Harbor Sweets is located in Salem, MA and you can stop in (visit on Tuesday or Thursday for a tour!) or purchase online at harborsweets.com
